How to prepare for an engagement session

A few things to consider while planning an engagement session.

There are some questions that seem to frequently come up when planning an engagement session, so I put together this tip sheet, hoping it may help in planning for your shoot!

Location

When you're deciding on a location, I recommend first considering places that are particularly special to you.
If no places jump out, begin by examining the type of environment you're drawn toward... Are you more drawn to an adventurous hike, embracing the elements? Or maybe more toward exploring the streets with more of an urban/city vibe?
There are no wrong answers here and I have plenty of awesome location recommendations!

01

What to Wear

Personally, I'd avoid being too matchy-matchy. Gone are the days of both couples wearing white t-shirts and jeans. You’ll want what you wear to complement each other, but not totally copy. Solid colored clothing items are great, and if you want to bring in a pattern, maybe have only one person wearing the pattern. Wear what you're comfortable in! If you’re not comfortable in what you’re wearing, that's just silly... So be comfortable!

02

Makeup

Makeup looks different on-camera than in-person, and a professional makeup artist will often know how much more makeup you’ll need to show well on camera.
It can be a great trial run for your wedding day, helping you find out what works and what doesn’t, and make adjustments for your wedding day. Some people like to have their makeup done, others don't. Either way is just fine!

03

Should We Bring Anything?

This is completely up to you, but can be SUPER fun! If there are certain items that reflect something about you guys or your story that you would like to incorporate into photos, bring them... Hats, fun shoes, coffee, cameras, bicycles... It's all fair game!
Engagement sessions are so awesome... Relaxed and fun.

Be ready to have a good time!
