Elopement Photographer | Jill + Ben
When I first connected with Jill and Ben, they were looking for an elopement photographer to capture their day just as they envisioned it. We started dreaming up ideas and set forth!
There’s nothing like giving tradition the old “see ya later” and doing things your way. True to form, that’s exactly what Jill and Ben set out to do.
I met up with them at their cabin, just steps away from the North Shore waters. This place is special to them, and there’s no other place they’d rather begin this journey than right here.
Hand-in-hand (or hand-in-hand-and-leash-in-hand rather, with pup Ottis), we adventured out, exploring this rugged landscape that’s captured their hearts. They shared memories and created new ones. As we climbed, I watched two people that absolutely make each other come alive.
Congrats, Jill and Ben!

Tips from an Elopement Photographer
The amazingly unique benefit of eloping is that you often times have a blank canvas to create with!
Back in the day, the general definition of an elopement was to secretly run away and get married. These days, that can definitely be the case, but often times an elopement doesn’t necessarily have to be a secret. The idea is for it to be a very small -typically just the two of you, your photographer, and officiant- and usually involves exchanging vows in a location of significance to you. That’s it! If this sounds like it’s your jam, read on for a few tips:
- Know your location – A little planning goes a long way when if comes to choosing a location to exchange vows. Get to know the area and terrain. Picking a location that has special significance to the two of you can definitely have impact. Alternatively, consider choosing a site that you don’t have history with, but both feel drawn to. This will provide unforgettable memories and a location to return to.
- Consider Your Lodging – As in the case of Jill and Ben, they rented the cutest AirBnB. This can be cost effective, position you very close to your elopement location, and also give you a little bit of distance from the generic tourist hotspots.
- Connect with your Vendors – While there aren’t usually a lot of people involved in an elopement, definitely take advantage of knowledge and experience of the people you’re working with, whether that is your photographer or officiant! If you’re feeling stuck or in need of advice or ideas, these people are your team and can likely offer lots of help!
